November 2010 (pdf with pictures)

Wisconsin Fall colors to Medellin eternal Spring

WisconsinMenasha, Wisconsin.

Living in Wisconsin and Midwest travel did allow us to see Fall colors and experience a few night low temperatures below freezing. The cold seemed to confirm our plan to leave Wisconsin and return to Medellin to our seminary responsibilities. But let me assure you that we did enjoy the times in Wisconsin and the opportunity for Elizabeth to continue to write the commentary on John’s gospel, and also to travel to see family and friends that we often do not get to visit.

We are thankful for the two months we had in a lovely, furnished apartment with Sonshine Ministries. On the last page of this letter I share more that we saw.

Medellin and home

hummingbirdsWe were received on November 2 with our first PARTY. About 20 co-‐workers and students showed up at our apartment to WELCOME us and to share experiences of these months we were gone.

Our patio also received us with hummingbirds and orchids, which I will share (although the photography is not mine).

Elizabeth immediately travelled to Panama to teach at a Langham Preaching Workshop (a John Stott Ministries program). Twenty from Central America and the Spanish speaking Caribbean attended. She taught for four sessions on how to preach from the New Testament.

Work reality is graduation on November 26th. The night before (Thanksgiving in the USA), we will celebrate God’s faithfulness with the graduates and their guests at a formal dinner. Following graduation, we have evaluation meetings, interviews with applicants for the 2011 school year and the closing of the academic and calendar year.

We invite you to pray for:

  • Elizabeth’s work on the commentary on the gospel of John.
  • Her return to the office next Monday and the closing of the academic year.
  • The Seminary’s board as they seek to replace Dr. Mauel Reano, who has resigned as the school’s President, effective on December 31. Thursday, November 18, 2010, we celebrated in chapel service with joy and gratitude for Manuel’s years of service and sadness for his departure. Manuel has been a friend for many years, and we will miss working under his leadership.
  • Final planning for 2011 and the new students who will enroll.
  • The seminary’s financial problems.
  • New opportunities to serve the Lord’s Church in Colombia and the Spanish speaking world. Two professors went to Honduras to teach the pastors from a growing denomination in Central America. Details of a contract for continued cooperation in their leadership training are being worked out.

May the Lord give each of you a wonderful Thanksgiving as you remember His goodness to you. We thank you for caring for us and praying for us, as we experienced wonderful times of fellowship and safe travels in these past months.

Sincerely in Christ,

Donald and Elizabeth Sendek
